Frequently

Asked

Questions

Whether you’re starting, resuming or continuing care, you’re bound to have questions.

Have other questions?

"HOW MUCH DO YOUR

SERVICES COST?"

My fees range from $65 -$225 depending on the type of service and duration. Specific fees are listed under services. Payment is due at the end of each session by cash, e-transfer or online credit card processing.

"ARE YOUR SERVICES COVERED BY EXTENDED HEALTH BENEFITS?"

As a registered Social Worker in Ontario, my services are covered in full or in part by most insurance companies through extended health benefits. It is important to find out what your specific policy covers by calling your insurance company or employer ahead of time.

Some questions you may wish to ask include:

  • Do you cover services provided by a Registered Social Worker?

  • What amount do I have available per year and per session?

  • Do I have to participate in services in person or does my plan also cover online counselling by a qualified mental health professional?

  • Do I require a doctor referral in order to qualify for reimbursement?

Please note that I do not offer direct billing at this time. You will be responsible for paying any fee due at the end of each session after which I will provide you with a detailed receipt that you can submit to your insurance company as needed.

"I AM A POST-SECONDARY STUDENT. DO MY BENEFITS COVER YOUR SERVICES?"

As a post-secondary student you may  be entitled to full or partial coverage for counselling services, in addition to coverage that may be available to you through your parents' plan, should they have benefits. Please check with your school for more details:

"WHAT IF I CAN’T AFFORD YOUR FEES?"

Therapy is an emotional, practical and financial investment. Affordability is often cited as a barrier to participation. I offer a sliding-scale option to a limited number of clients who cannot afford my usual rates and are highly invested in their change process. If affordability is a challenge for you, please contact me so we can discuss your needs.

"WHAT IS YOUR CANCELLATION POLICY?"

I require a minimum 24-hour notice to cancel or reschedule an appointment, otherwise you will be charged in full for the session.

Please contact me as soon as possible to let me know that you won’t be attending an appointment. I understand that life happens, despite our best intentions. I am open to working with you if an emergency occurs.

"DOES WHAT WE DISCUSS IN THERAPY REMAIN CONFIDENTIAL?"

In the course of our work together we may explore sensitive subject matter.

Protecting the confidentiality of your information is a professional, ethical and legal obligation and a central value in the social work profession. As a regulated health professional, I take various precautions to ensure that what we discuss remains private.

There are, however, several limits to your privacy that I am bound to uphold as a regulated health professional. Limits to confidentiality include, but are not limited to:

  • Suspicion or disclosure of child abuse or neglect

  • Risk of serious harm or danger to yourself or a third party

  • Disclosure is ordered by court

During our initial communication, we will review my confidentiality policy and procedures to ensure your informed consent to services.

"WHAT IS A CHECK-IN APPOINTMENT?"

Check-in appointments are brief (30 minutes) and suited for those working on behavioural changes and/or wanting an emotional check in.  Check-in appointments are limited to those already participating in services.
